Adding a business view
The most efficient way of creating a business view is by converting a report cube. To do this:
- In the Data tab of the Catalog Browser, locate a report cube, right-click it, then select Create Business View from the shortcut menu.
- A business view with the same name as the report cube will be added under the Business View node at the same level as the Report Cube node in the query. The predefined filters and hierarchy groups will also be kept in the business view.
Note: Do not use the Create Business View shortcut if there is already an existing business view. All web reports and library components built on the old business view may be destroyed.
You can also create a business view manually. Follow the steps below:
- In JReport Designer, click File > Catalog Management > Open Catalog to open the catalog to which you want to add the business view.
- In the Data tab of the Catalog Browser, expand the Imported SQLs, Stored Procedures, User Defined, or Queries node in the desired data source of the catalog, select the source on which the business view will be based, right-click the Business View node and then click Add Business View.
- In the Input Business View Name dialog, enter a name for the business view, and then click OK. The Business View Editor window appears. See the window.
- Add elements to the business view.
- Define hierarchies on the business view to allow end users to drill report data to particular groups.
- Create some predefined filters on the business view to narrow down records.
- Configure member-level security on group objects in the business view if necessary.
- Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the business view.
- Click File > Close to close the window. The business view will now have been added to the catalog.
See also Business View Editor window for additional help about options in the window.
